Carnegie Library Summer Reading Extravaganza

Sunday, June 10, 2012 - Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh

The 12th Annual Summer Reading Extravaganza took place on what I believe was the hottest day of the year yet, but the kids didn't care!

They were having a blast playing, crafting, building, digging, sliding, petting, and reading! All the events took place on the lawn of the main Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in Oakland (right up the street from my house!)

Children dug through piles of endless books to find their favorites!

The younger children were read a story in groups.

Although this shot shows tons of tents and people, this about 1/8 of the total size of this event. It was HUGE!

Tons of crafts for kids of all ages!

Eat n' Park let the children decorate Smiley Cookies - what a delicious mess! Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium was there with some of their intimidating wild animals.

So scary.

Healthy snacks such as fruit, granola bars, and pretzels were provided, along with lots of water.

Pittsburgh Musical Theater rocked the stage with a whole array of awesome songs for families to enjoy.

Some cute dogs from the Western PA Humane Society were there to mingle with. These dogs serve as "therapy dogs."

This little girl was just adorable. She was able to meet a real ballerina from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater

The boys loved the LEGO tables. What else can I say?

Evelyn and her mother enjoy relaxing away from all the excitement to blow some bubbles together. What a fun event this was for entire families!

Lovely pictures of a fantastic event! The little girl meeting the ballerina is my daughter. Any chance we could get an copy of one of those pictures? (I forgot to bring my camera to the event!)

Thanks for checking out the photos, Marsha! The dogs were just absolutely wonderful. I also adjusted the wording in the blog text to mention the "Western PA Humane Society" to accurately reflect where the dogs were from!
